Manu Chao is my hero, so when I learned he'd be playing a pair of shows at Prospect Park I immediately nabbed tickets. Two days before the show, on a total whim, I emailed his publicist requesting an interview knowing that Manu rarely does them. To my surprise, the publicist emailed me an hour later saying Manu was available to speak with me on the phone that very evening.  My heart began pounding out of my chest as I ran out of my office and hopped a cab home to retrieve my voice recorder. On the way back to my office I furiously scribbled down as many questions as I could -- but let me tell you it's hard to decide what to ask your hero. When we spoke, Manu I'm sure could hear my nerves through the phone but he immediately put me at ease with his kindness and humility. It was his 46th birthday, but he gave the gift that day.  Possibly the highlight of my writing career.
