2011 - Present: The Law Office of Ryan S. Henriquez


  1. Negotiate production services, talent, content acquisition, and distribution agreements for cable television networks and production companies.

  2. Represent top industry executives and producers in employment, consulting, shopping, and development agreements.

  3. Negotiate visual effects agreements on behalf of an Emmy-nominated special effects company.

  4. Act as general counsel for an independent record company. Negotiate physical and digital distribution agreements, artist agreements, producer/engineer agreements, and master use licenses.

  5. Counsel recordings artists and songwriters. Negotiate recording, publishing, producer, and sponsorship agreements on their behalf, along with synchronization and mechanical licenses. 

  6. Oversee large-scale music clearance projects for film and television.


2007 - 2011: VP of Business & Legal Affairs for MTV Networks


  1. Negotiated agreements for VH1 original programs with production companies, executive producers, writers, and on-camera talent. Sample shows include “Tool Academy” (495 Productions); “You’re Cut Off” (Allison Grodner Productions);  “Eddie Griffin: Going for Broke” (A Day With, Inc.); and  “My Big Friggin’ Wedding” (495).


  2. Oversaw business & legal affairs for VH1 Classic’s slate of originals, including “Behind the Music: Remastered” (Eagle Rock), “Rock N’ Roll Fantasy Camp” (Mark Burnett Productions), and five seasons of the in-house produced “That Metal Show.”


  3. Negotiated international distribution agreements for MTV, VH1, and CMT original series, including “Celebrity Rehab” and its family of spin-offs (VH1); “The Real World” (MTV); and “Gator 911” (CMT).


2004 - 2007: VP of Business & Legal Affairs for the Oxygen Network


  1. Negotiated agreements for Oxygen’s original programs including the production services agreements for staples like “The Bad Girls Club” (Bunim Murray), “Tori & Dean: Inn Love” (World of Wonder), and “The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency” (Fremantle).   


  1. Negotiated acquisition agreements with major film and television studios to exhibit motion pictures and television series on Oxygen.


  1. Acted as lead counsel for quarterly Custom Concert series, featuring artists like LL Cool J, Ashanti, Kenny Chesney, the Wallflowers, John Legend, and Trisha Yearwood. Negotiate artist and label agreements, and music licenses for a broad rights package including television, video-on-demand, broadband, and wireless rights.


2001 - 2004: Director of Business & Legal Affairs (Licensing) for EMI Music Publishing


  1. Negotiated television blanket license agreements, covering specific shows or entire networks/studios, including MTV, CBS, Fox and Paramount.


  1. Created EMI’s contract forms for licensing music for new technologies including ringtones and wireless karaoke. 


  1. Negotiated and drafted synchronization licenses for commercials, films, trailers, stage plays, TV shows, videogames, karaoke, merchandise, websites, and mobile platforms. Updated these forms to address emerging media, including negotiating revisions to our film and trailer forms with major studios like Sony Pictures, DreamWorks, MGM and Universal.


1999 - 2001: Hughes Hubbard & Reed, LLP


  1. Drafted and negotiated software license, content license, distribution, co-branding, Web portal (broadband & wireless), and Web marketing agreements.


  1. Negotiated writer, collaboration, and distribution agreements for independent filmmakers.
